In this presentation, we look into the transformative role of OPC UA in the Oil & Gas industry, a sector with a rich history of OPC UA application. We will explore the impact of Companion Specifications such as MDIS and the Energy Initiative for renewables, launched at the Hannover Messe, which underscore the growing interest of companies in leveraging OPC UA for their projects in the Oil & Gas and Energy market.
A key highlight of our discussion will be the cloud initiative, inaugurated this year at the Hannover Messe, which consolidates all cloud-related activities (OPC UA over MQTT, Digital Product Passports, Digital Twins, …) within the OPC Foundation. We will discuss the significant contributions of major players such as Microsoft, AWS, SAP, Huawei, and Alibaba Cloud in driving this initiative.

Digitalization in the process of corrosion monitoring using an integrated dual sensors system
The subject of the presentation is the implementation and results of ORLEN’s own monitoring of general corrosion and hydrogenation using an integrated dual corrosion sensor system. The system was implemented in 2021 on one of the industrial plants as a prototype and is a a great success in our refinery, currently during the implementation process on two additional production facilities. The project was co-financed from EU funds and was in cooperation with the prestigious Gdansk University of Technology in Poland.
